Philip Lipton wears many hats…

As a composer…

Lipton has been supported by the National Endowment of the Arts to write his debut album. Each summer he presents his works at festivals from Charleston SC to San Diego CA. His compositions are theatrical works for the modern clarinet which combine techniques such as circular breathing and looping. Each movement is inspired by personal mind opening experiences. He also writes chamber music where melody is woven seamlessly like the natural beauty of the coastal area of South Carolina where he resides.

As a freelance clarinetist…

Striking a pose…

Lipton is the Principal Clarinet of the North Charleston POPS! Orchestra.  Lipton is also the founder of the Kleztonians, which specializes in a fusion of traditional Jewish music.  As a soloist, he has shared his Influence of Benny Goodman concert by touring extensively in California and across the Southeast. While Lipton spends much of his time performing and preparing for concerts, he is also an inspired educator.

As an educator…

At El Sistema, El Salvador, Lipton helped in building the conservatory’s chamber music program with the nonprofit MUSAID. Lipton is also a certified yoga instructor and blends yoga breathing and stretching into his teachings. It is safe to say, Lipton literally lives and breathes music.
